Q: What services does Modern Medical offer?
A: Modern Medical provides Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Disposable Supplies (wound care, ostomy, etc.), Electrotherapy, Orthotics & Prosthetics, Home Health Care Services, IV Therapy Services, Outpatient Therapy Services, Transportation Services, Language Services, and Pharmacy Benefits Management.

Q: What areas does Modern Medical service?
A: Modern Medical provides all services nationwide.

Q : What are Modern Medical's hours of operation ?
A : Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 9:00pm EST. Modern Medical can be reached 24 hours per day, 365 days a year via the emergency paging option available through the off hours answering system.

Q: How can I locate the common uses for medication therapy?
A: Through the Ask-A-Pharmacist program, the Clinical Services Department can answer your drug information question. Requests can be submitted either via the web-based request form or by emailing: pharmacist@modernmedical.com.

Q: Does Modern Medical offer a medication review service?
A: Clinical Pharmacists are available to conduct Independent Pharmaceutical Evaluations (IPEs). An IPE is an in-depth review of the medication history of a claimant with discussions on drug-related problems (e.g. possible "doctor shopping," drug interactions, high dose, etc.), drug information, appropriateness of drug treatment, cost effective therapy, and clinical recommendations on medication management. Many clients submit the IPEs to the prescribing physicians, the Independent Medical Examiners, and organizations providing Medicare Set-Aside allocation reports. (An additional charge does apply to use this service.)

Q: What kind of medication formularies does Modern Medical provide?
A: We offer our clients the option to utilize our standard formulary, the diagnosis-based formularies (TruScript), and/or to have a customized formulary developed.

Q: What is the process of re-invoicing (or re-pricing)?
A: Unpaid, approved invoices may be sent to Modern Medical for re-invoicing. Through this process, Modern Medical pays the providing pharmacy and re-invoice the client at or below the original billed rate. We then enroll the claimant in our pharmacy program to apply controls and capture savings on any future prescription fills.

Q: When using the Access pharmacy card program, does a claimant still need to obtain a prescription from a physician?
A: Yes. The Access card provides information regarding formulary controls and billing through our online adjudication system. A valid prescription is still required.

Q: Can claimants utilize more than one pharmacy?
A: Yes. Over 58,000 pharmacies are included in our pharmacy network, including all major chain pharmacies and claimants may present the Access card at any network pharmacy to receive approved medications through our program. We do however, have the ability to limit a claimant to a specific dispensing pharmacy if such control is requested by the claims professional.

Q : Does Modern Medical “bank” equipment ?
A : Yes. Bankable items, such as Cold Therapy Units, Traction Units, and Electrotherapy Units, once purchased, may be retrieved from the claimant when no longer medically necessary and banked in the Modern Medical warehouse. Modern Medical will then refurbish, replace any disposable parts, and store the item until it is needed by another claimant. When we receive another referral for that type of equipment, we will then ship the item to the claimants at no additional rental or purchase charge. A minimal fee of $33.00 is charged at the time of shipping for the refurb, storage and shipping.

Q : Does Modern Medical contact the claimant to explain services requested?
A : Yes. Regardless of the type of service requested, a Modern Medical associate will make a introductory phone call to the claimant, explain our role in his/her care, and explain next steps (delivery and/or shipment, pharmacy card, network pharmacy location, etc.). We also follow-up with each claimant to verify delivery and satisfaction.

Q : Is Modern Medical able to provide DME equipment the same day?
A : We are able to offer same day services in most cases. Our DME provider network is extensive and typically can provide same day service for standard equipment items. Bariatric or specialty equipment requests often will require more lead time.

Q : How can I request services from Modern Medical?
A : You may submit a request via phone, fax, through our website, or through electronic data interchange.

Q : Can a Bone Growth or Spinal Growth Stimulator be rented ?
A : Per FDA regulations, bone & spinal growth stimulators are single patient use only and therefore are purchase-only items. They cannot be banked for use by other patients and are disposed of by the manufacturer after patient use.

Q: What is done if a medication rejects at the pharmacy?
A: When the pharmacist attempts to adjudicate a medication claim through our system and receives a rejection notice, the notice provides Modern Medical’s name, contact information, a rejection code, and asks the pharmacist to contact us for authorization. When Modern Medical receives a call from a pharmacist regarding a rejection, we will seek authorization information for the medication or contact the prescriber, depending on the reason the medication is rejecting.

Q: Does Modern Medical offer IV therapy, home health services and outpatient therapy services?
A: Yes. Modern Medical can provide any type of home health services including, but not limited to; RN, home health aide, medical social work, PT, OT, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, oxygen therapy (CPAP, BiPAP, concentrators, portable O2, etc.), and wound V.A.C. therapy. We also offer IV therapy services to include antibiotics, pain management and anti-coagulation therapy services. Additionally, housekeeping services to assist claimants may be arranged through Modern Medical (this particular service does not require prescription).

Q: Can MMI arrange home health services without a prescription?
