If using the Access pharmacy card program, does a claimant need to obtain a prescription from a physician?
Yes. The Access card provides information regarding formulary controls and billing through our online adjudication system. A valid prescription is still required.
Can claimants utilize more than one pharmacy?
Yes. Over 60,000 pharmacies are included in our pharmacy network, including all major chain pharmacies, and claimants may present the Access card at any network pharmacy to receive approved medications through our program. We do, however, have the ability to limit a claimant to a specific dispensing pharmacy if such control is requested by the claims professional.
Does Modern Medical "bank" equipment ?
Yes. Bankable items, such as cold therapy units, traction units and electrotherapy units, once purchased, may be retrieved from the claimant when no longer medically necessary and banked in the Modern Medical warehouse. Modern Medical will then refurbish the item, replace any disposable parts, and store it until it is needed by another claimant. When we receive another referral for that type of equipment, we will then ship the item to the claimant at no additional rental or purchase charge. A minimal fee of $33.00 is charged at the time of shipping for the refurb, storage and shipping.
Does Modern Medical contact the claimant to explain services requested?
Yes. Regardless of the type of service requested, a Modern Medical associate will make an introductory phone call to the claimant, explain our role in his/her care, and explain the next steps (delivery and/or shipment, pharmacy card, network pharmacy location, etc.). We also follow up with each claimant to verify delivery and satisfaction.
Is Modern Medical able to provide DME equipment the same day?
We are able to offer same-day services in most cases. Our DME provider network is extensive and typically can provide same-day service for standard equipment items. Bariatric or specialty equipment requests often will require more lead time.

You may submit a request via phone, fax, our website, or through electronic data interchange.

What is done if a medication rejects at the pharmacy?
When the pharmacist attempts to adjudicate a medication claim through our system and receives a rejection notice, the notice provides Modern Medical’s name, contact information and a rejection code, and asks the pharmacist to contact us for authorization.
